Biketoberfest and Brunch

Just following up on the e-mail from Warren with a bit more information, and a correction.

All bikes need to be parked outside Jeff Gray BMW before 1200 on Saturday as the roads will be closed from 1200 onwards.  Rodney will be there to direct traffic and maybe try and park the bikes by model.  We are also putting on a bit of a GS display to mark the 30 Year Anniversary and collecting for the Westpac Trust Helicopter Service.

Once you have parked your bike, Gillian and Bonnie (named after her dad’s Bonneville) at High Street Cafe (215 High Street, beside Excelsiors Hotel) are expecting us for brunch so make your way there (just a few blocks up Manchester Street).  I have attached their breakfast menu below.  It would be a great help for them if we can give them some numbers so if you are coming for brunch can you respond to this blog (under comments) so we can let them know.

Don’t forget the activities kick off today out at Ruapuna, weather permitting and Rodney will have one of the S1000R bikes available for rides tomorrow.

Biketoberfest Christchurch Friday 29th to Nov 1st

Posted: October 28, 2010 by BlogMaster in Events

This is to confirm that despite being shaken we are still going ahead with Biketoberfest 2010.This year will be even better and bigger than last year and for those who were there it was a blast.

Here is a quick run-down of the events we have planned.

Friday 29th at Ruapuna starting at 6.00pm we are running bike sprints .This is a first for Biketoberfest and will be a great sight seeing bikes sprinting against each other and the clock!

We will be running similar bikes against each other and some fun events as well. come and enter your bike or just come to watch. There will be some prizes up for grabs.

More details to come so you can get the details to your club members

Steve Grigor from Sportzone Suzuki will then attempt to beat the current world record attempt for a front wheel stoppie on a trail bike. This is a must see and I have seen Steve practise this and it is amazing, so lets cheer Steve on to a world record.

Saturday 30th of October. This is the big day on Manchester Street and now we have approval to close Manchester Street like last year. This will happen at 1.00pm so all the clubs holding displays and BBQs etc will need to be organized and ready to move into place at that time. The displays and events will be like last year just bigger and better. there are some new events planned as well ,like a fashion show, so please let all on your databases know. We really want families and friends of bikers to come and see some great bikes on display .there will be food vendors and club displays as well. Prizes will be up for grabs for the bike show plus there will be a major prize of a weekend for 2 in Hamner Springs to be won

We have also designed a limited edition Tshirt to commemorate the recent big events in Chch.It will be available for $15.00 and is top quality and in very limited numbers so come to this afternoon to get one (or 2 ! ).All profits from this T-shirt will be going to the Salvation Army here in Chch and at this time it is great to be able to support them.

We then have a great biker party planned at the Iconic Bar on Manchester Street from 7.00pm and that’s when the prizes will be drawn so be there to win. There will be great deals on drinks and food on the night too.

Sunday 30th.

We would like to have a mass club ride. So please talk to your members and come back with your ideas on destination and times.

We welcome any feed-back  and ideas so please contact me or any of the Manchester Street bike shops.

This event is really to say that it takes more than an earthquake to stop us bikers from having a good time!

For more details go to New Zealand Biketoberfest on Facebook.

The 6th running of the Christchurch Biketoberfest will run from Friday October 29th to Sunday 31st.

The outline of events will be as follows:

Friday 29th – Ruapuna

  • Basic Rider Training
  • Guinness World Record Attempt at the Longest Front Wheelie (just riding on the FRONT wheel)

Saturday 30th – Manchester Street, Christchurch

  • Lower Manchester Street (where all the bike shops are) will be closed from 1300 to 1600
  • There will be bike displays by all the Manchester Brands
  • There will be live displays (trials bikes etc)
  • There will be a Women in Motion display (bikes and clothing suitable for women riders)
  • A fashion parade (bike gear)
  • Mass ride off at 1600
  • The Martin Jet Pack will be there again and doing something special
  • Party that night at Iconic on Manchester Street with heaps of prizes being given away

On the Saturday morning there will be a Fire Engine Display at the Central Fire Station on Kilmore Street (we think) so go and support these guys.

Sunday – October 31st

  • Group ride to as yet unconfirmed location.  It would be great if all Clubs could make this part of their regular events as we would like as many bikes as possible at the event.  we will all leave from a central location and make our way to the destination by any means you want.

Volunteers Required

Each club needs to submit some volunteer labour for both the Friday and Saturday events.  Please let your Area rep know if you are able to help out.  Jobs will include:

  • Marshalling at Ruapuna
  • Marshalling on Manchester St
  • Rubbish Collection at the end of the event (Saturday after 1600)
  • Help with organizing events

Double win for Justin

If you attended the Biketoberfest event on Manchester Street, then you possibly entered the draw for a BMW Helmet at Jeff Gray BMW.

Well the lucky winner was Justin Ryan, but as you can see in the photo, that was not all he won as it turned out he also won ……………………………………….

Helmet Winner

a Rodney Handshake!!!!!

Well if you were one of the lucky ones that attended the Biketoberfest event in Christchurch today you will know what I mean.  There was a great attendance of riders and motorbikes and I hope everyone checked out the motorbike park as there were more bikes out there than on Manchester St.

We had prime position in front of Jeff Gray BMW and Rodney had a number of new bikes on display that received a lot of attention.  We were also opposite the Harley boys (and girls) who never cease to amaze everyone on how well their bikes are presented.  Does anyone know how many models Harley actually produce as I don’t think I have seen two bikes the same yet.

We had a great display of bikes ranging from the oldest GS models right through to a kewl green Triumph (how did that get there!!!).  All the bike dealers along Manchester Street did their bit with some great displays on show.  There was also a concurs events and some Trials riders showed us how easy it is to jump over large barrels.  Would have been much more impressed if they did it on Warren’s Adventurer.

There was an Tank on display right in the middle of the road and the Martin Jet Pack was also available to ‘step into’.

Overall it was a great day and I think everyone enjoyed themselves but wouldn’t it be great if we could extend it to full weekend of events including some street racing perhaps.

The day ended with a huge ride off led by the Harleys.  Did anyone report a n earthquake in Christchurch when they all started?  Amazing noise.

Biketoberfest – Sunday Public Display

This coming weekend is Biketoberfest and part of the event will include a display of BMW motorcycles and the chance for the general public and bikers to talk to BMWOR members and learn about the club.

As a heads up our space allocation is 30 lineal meters, most of it is outside Geoff Gray BMW. I will send out a list tomorrow of the bikes I would like to see displayed so once you have seen the list you’ll be able to say whether or not you will come along. I hope you will be able to participate.

If you intend to display your bike you will need to be at Geoff Gray around 8.00am this coming Sunday.

Top Secret – Someone has mentioned that the Martin Jet Pack might be making an appearance as well.
