We have just had confirmation that the Mayor of Invercargill, Tim Shadbolt, will join the GS Riders for their final leg of the trip from Invercargill to Bluff.   He has decided to do this in recognition of the great effort we would have endured in order to get there,  he may also need a lift.

The guys down South have been great supporter of what we are doing and even put out their own Press Release – BMW GS anniversary and Charity Ride coincide with BMC

We are also looking at having a bit of a special event at the start in Cape Reinga so hopefully you can make it there.

Pretty well all the planning, permissions, accommodation etc has been completed.  If you have booked a spot at GlenFalloch and not heard anything back then don’t worry as we have the place to ourselves, the same goes at Waipiata.  I will be confirming numbers with these venues based on information provided from the Confirmed Riders Register so if you are coming and have not done this yet then please do so.

If you can return the Disclaimer Forms (GS_Ride_Disclaimer) before the start it will be a great help.

I have added a link on the ride where those not taking part can follow the GS Riders.  We will be uploading photos and stories here each night (hopefully) so keep track of where we are at.

Don’t forget to order your t-shirt from Alex and there is plenty of time to do some fundraising for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust – $6,932 raised so far, an awesome effort.

A rider who is taking part on the GS Anniversary Ride is making inquiries about flying back from Dunedin and shipping his bike back.  He has got a price of $400 from Motorcycle Movers from Tirau but if more people were interested then they may consider a better price.

If you are interested contact them directly at 0800 687 583 and mention you are taking part in the BMW GS Anniversary Ride and negotiate a good deal.

Start your engines for the inaugural Variety Bike Bash, a bike run with a difference!

A difference for Kiwi kids!     November 21st to 26th

It will combine fantastic scenery and great roads with fundraising for Kiwi kids and, in true Variety style, entertainment and fun.

More than just a traditional bike run, riders will visit schools and children along the way, distributing grants to Kiwi kids in need, and bringing a smile to the faces of the kids. Bike Bashers will see exactly where the funds they have raised go.

  • The Burt Munro Challenge is a motorcycle rally, only motorcycles will be permitted into the rally site. Support vehicles will be parked in a designated parking area.

It also includes a camping spot for you at the Rally Site. Book your tickets HERE!

The GS Anniversary riders will be arriving there on the 24th and we are currently discussing with event organisers some ceremony to celebrate the 30 years of GS.  if you have any ideas then add a comment to this post (racing on the beach is out as you need a Racing Licence).

So far we have had 26 response to our Survey / Registry of Interest and all are keen to see the event running.  There are 2 HP2 Enduros amongst that.

A small change from the original post would see the event run from Cape Reinga to Bluff so we can enjoy the Burt Munro Challenge as a finale to the ride.  It would be great if we could feature in the event somehow so if anyone knows the organizers then can you let me know.

Again, if you know anyone who has a GS then please let them know of the event.  Bike Rider Magazine has agreed to mention it in their next edition to hopefully draw some more people out.

We have also been offered a spot prize in the form of a Full Service for  GS Bike so maybe others out there are interested in doing the same…we will take anything.

If there is anyone you know who rides a GS, of any age or condition, then we would love to see them come along, even for part of the trip so please let them know.

I have attached a small poster you can pass out or hang up which might help.

And a useful tip for all of you with a GS Adventure

And, a S1000RR on Ice

Just had a quick look and the Burt Munro Challenge takes place from November 25th to the 28th so maybe it would be a great way to finish the GS Anniversary Ride, therefore we start in Cape Reinga and head South to Bluff.

Maybe we could finish with a parade or we take part in the Beach Race????
